Wissenstransfer mit Weblogs in KMU: Eine explorative Einzelfallstudie

Alexander Stocker, Klaus Tochtermann, Nikolaus Krasser

Abstract: Weblogs stellen textbasierte Inhalte in umgekehrt chronologischer Reihenfolge dar und erlauben zusätzlich Feedback in Form von Kommentaren.

The Linked Data Value Chain: A Lightweight Model for Business Engineers

Abstract: Linked Data is as essential for the Semantic Web as hypertext has been for the Web. For this reason, the W3C community project Linking Open Data has been facilitating the transformation of publicly available, open data into Linked Data since 2007. As of 2009, the vast majority of Linked Data is still generated by esearch communities and institutions. For a successful corporate uptake, we deem it important to have a strong conceptual groundwork, providing the foundation for the development of business cases revolving around the adoption of Linked Data. We therefore present the Linked Data Value Chain, a model that conceptualizes the current Linked Data sphere. The Linked Data Value Chain helps to identify and categorize potential pitfalls which have to be considered by business engineers. We demonstrate this process within a concrete case study involving the BBC.

Stakeholder-Orientierung als Gestaltungsprinzip für Corporate Web 2.0: Eine explorative Analyse

Stakeholder-Orientierung als Gestaltungsprinzip für
Corporate Web 2.0: Eine explorative Analyse
Alexander Stocker, Anwar Us Saeed, Patrick Hoefler,
Markus Strohmaier, Klaus Tochtermann

Towards a Framework for Social Web Platforms: The Neurovation Case

Towards a Framework for Social Web Platforms: The Neurovation Case
Alexander Stocker, Gisela Granitzer, Patrick Hoefler, Viktoria Pammer, Reinhard Willfort, Anna Maria Koeck and Klaus Tochtermann

Abstract—Social web platforms have become very popular in the so-called Web 2.0, and there is no end in sight. However, very few systematic models for the constitution of such socio-technical infrastructures exist in the scientific literature. We therefore present a generic framework for building social web platforms based on the creation of value for individuals, communities and social networks. We applied this framework in the Neurovation project, aiming to establish a platform for creative knowledge workers. This paper describes work in progress and the lessons we have learned so far.

Informal Learning with Semantic Wikis in Enterprises

Informal Learning with Semantic Wikis in Enterprises
Gisela Granitzer, Alexander Stocker, Patrick Hoefler and Klaus Tochtermann

Abstract: Information overload is a severe challenge, both on the Web and on corporate intranets. In order to be productive, organizations and their employees depend on finding information that meets their current demands. Traditional courses or learning management systems are not the right tools, since tasks are short term and frequently shifting. In the paper at hand, we suggest to use Semantic Wikis for the organized provision and efficient retrieval of information, since they have a structured body of information. First, situation and challenges are outlined, informal learning as the central form of learning in organisational context and the social semantic web are introduced, and finally a scenario is given.

Investigating Weblogs in Small and Medium Enterprises: An Exploratory Case Study

Investigating Weblogs in Small and Medium Enterprises: An Exploratory Case Study
Alexander Stocker and Klaus Tochtermann

Abstract: Contrary to a Wiki where the opinion of the individual user disappears in favor of a more impartial ‘collective intelligence’, a weblog is author-centered, expressing the author’s subjective point of view. This particular property of weblogs played a fundamental role for the popularity weblogs gained for making implicit knowledge explicit in an unsolicited, selforganized
way. However, empirical studies from academia exploring internal corporate weblogs remain scarce, especially when they focus on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) which make up the majority of all enterprises worldwide. To counteract this lack of research, we investigate an internal corporate weblog in an ICT SME from a knowledge management perspective.
We derive both research questions and hypotheses to test within future studies. Furthermore, we consider already gained findings from corporate weblog research and investigate their immediate applicability in the context of SMEs.

Does Tagging Indicate Knowledge Diffusion? An Exploratory Case Study

Does Tagging Indicate Knowledge Diffusion? An Exploratory Case Study
Anwar Us Saeed, Muhammad Tanvir Afzal, Atif Latif and Alexander Stocker

Abstract: The high potential of knowledge to create economies of
scale attracted the interest towards understanding the
dynamics of its diffusion. The new developments in the
collaborative and participatory role of web emerges new
knowledge structures driving the need towards web based
indicators for studying the diffusion of knowledge. We
present the results of an exploratory case-study
investigating the tagging and citing practices for the
WWW `06 conference papers. We observed two important
patterns: (1) Papers which got heavily tagged in all three
applications Delicious, Citeulike and Bibsonomy
(average total tags > 6) generally achieved a high
number of citations. We also observed that most of the
tags were from 2006 and most of the citations were from
2007. This indicated that tags may hold the potential of
foretelling the future volume of regenerative diffusion of
research. (2) Terms appearing in tag-clouds of highly
tagged papers in 2006 reappear frequently in the titles of
respective citing papers in 2007. This shows that tag
clouds may have the potential of forecasting the context
of diffusion as well. It furthermore indicates that the users
tag the papers with multiple tags according to their
specific contexts of use as well as content of that
knowledge artifact based on these patterns we propose
that tags may be used as a supplementary indicator to
model the diffusion of knowledge.

Learning with the Web 2.0: The Encyclopedia of Life

Learning with the Web 2.0: The Encyclopedia of Life
Anwar Us Saaed, Alexander Stocker, Patrick Hoefler Klaus Tochtermann

In the 1990s, the World Wide Web has revolutionized the way in which knowledge seekers satisfy their thirst for knowledge. During the recent years, a technological and social paradigm shift called Web 2.0 attracted a lot of attention in the Internet community and is considered a major evolution of the web. New online applications make it easier for individuals to learn, using the vast information provided by the Internet and the collective intelligence of its users. The Encyclopedia of Life, a global repository for all kinds of information related to life on earth, builds upon the vision of Wikipedia and enhances it with Web 2.0 technologies and a concept for assuring high quality content. After a brief review of the development of the web as a learning resource, the authors of this paper present the concept of the Encyclopedia of Life as a knowledge pool for the domain of biology and compare it to the Wikipedia.
